This year’s Canada Day Weekend is going to be extra special because you will have the opportunity to race in two of your favorite events in one weekend. Canada Day, July 1st, is on Saturday this year, and will feature the EPIC Double-in-a-Day combo of the Maple Leaf 10K at 8AM, followed by The Canadian 5K at 9:30AM. Our evening race, kick-starting the Canada Day Weekend will once again take place on the holiday Friday night, June 30th at 6:00PM. However, this year the evening race will feature the popular Sole Sisters 5K. The Sole Sisters Races have long been instrumental in bringing inclusivity, inspiration and fun to racing; and was the very first night race in the Maritimes. So it seemed a great way to start our Canada Day Weekend and yes, it is open to both men and women!
As many of our participants already know, the Epic Canadian Races are brought to you by the same team that creates and produces the Sole Sisters Race Series. Though the last few years were challenging for all of us, after the forced break of 2020 and 2021, we were super pleased being able to lead the way in a safe return to sport in July and then October 2022 successfully delivering some of the first post-pandemic running events in the province.
But the Covid pause also presented a time for many of us to take a step back and think about how we spend our time, and reevaluate goals. We are incredibly pleased and filled with gratitude at what our team has created, delivering world-class events, providing inspiration, goals, and health transformations to participants from every Canadian Province and Territory, the majority of US States, and more than a dozen countries around the world. In addition, we’ve raised over $500,000 for Canadian charities and most recently Girls Gone Gazelle Run Club has expanded to multiple cities and provinces offering its free training to over 115 girls last spring alone.
Yet, we also realize, that for us, our future now lies in other challenges, and it is time for us to move in that direction. We wanted to thank all of you in person, welcoming you back for one final party – a joint celebration of all we have accomplished together over the last 15 years of running and multisport events. So, join us for one final amazing race weekend with all of our volunteers and runners and walkers that have been part of this incredible journey.
Sole Sisters 5K on Friday, June 30th, then the Maple Leaf 10K and The Canadian 5K, immediately followed by the Steele Subaru Kids Run Dartmouth races on Saturday, July 1st are going to be very special races for us as they will be our last events as Race Directors. After 15 years and 35,000 participants we are retiring.
Trust us; you do not want to miss this last chance to be a Sole Sister, an Epic Canadian or BOTH, or to simply celebrate one last time with us. More details will be shared next month when we open race registration. We absolutely can’t wait to see you one more time!
