REGISTER HERE for the Li’l Sisters Races.
WHEN: Li’l Sisters Races happens on Saturday, June 11, 2016. Yes, this is the same day as the Sole Sisters Women’s 5K. Girls will continue to be allowed to participate in the Sole Sisters 5K but, we hope that with time Li’l Sisters Races will be the event that girls gravitate to.
WHAT: Li’l Sisters Races will start with a FREE 100-meter dash; followed by a one-kilometer race and three-kilometer race.
WHERE: Li’l Sisters Races will occur near the current Sole Sisters 5K course in a protected area that is secure and safe (i.e. off the roads). In its inaugural year, the Li’l Sisters Races will be capped at 500 girls and we do expect this race to reach capacity long before June.
WHY: Because it’s 2016! And sadly, 29% of our adolescents are at unhealthy weight and only 4% of girls achieve the recommended daily levels of physical activity. We believe that running promotes confidence, body-acceptance, socialization and… it’s FUN. Li’l Sisters Races gives great race swag: every participant in the 1K & 3K will receive a shirt and medal (100-meter dash receives a ribbon). Our shirts will say on them, our favorite Girls Gone Gazelle Run Club slogan: “I don’t chase boys, I pass them!”
TIMING: These races will not be timed because we want to celebrate the accomplishment (not the pace) of completing 1 or 3K. You do not have to be a runner to do these races. Anything that covers the distance is encouraged: running, walking, jogging, skipping, whatever keeps our Li’l Sisters moving forward.
WHO: All girls 18 years and younger are encouraged to try this event! With that in mind, there is no age minimum nor do you have to do a specific distance based on age. You self select for the distance that appeals to your Li’l Sister.
Parents/guardians are not allowed to participate in the 3K. If you are concerned about your Li’l Sister and feel you need to participate then please register for the 1K. We will include two starts for the 1K. The first wave will be for GIRLS-only.
