With our sixth Sole Sisters Women’s 5K in the books we wanted to take a moment to welcome all the first time participants to the sisterhood! As a Sole Sister you are now part of a large community of runHERs and walkHERs.
Over the past six years we have done some amazing things and that is because of girls and women just like you. So you should be proud of your new community. Just think, approximately 18,000 girls and women have taken part in a Sole Sisters event making Sole Sisters the largest women’s 5K in Canada. And that happens right here in the Maritimes!
Going forward you will be amazed at how many other Sole Sisters will introduce themselves to you when they see you in a Sole Sisters shirt or tutu! So wear your gear proudly.
Speaking of race gear, it’s hard to believe there ever was a time when tutus were new to the running scene but Sole Sisters changed that! Next year you’ll see much more of our tartan (yes, we have a registered Sole Sisters TARTAN) and we’ll keep our tutus!
Once a Sole Sister, always a Sole Sister so even if you aren’t racing in October or even next June please know you can join us anytime for a SOCIAL (those free training sessions for nine weeks prior to our June or October race). You are inspiring someone even if you don’t realize it so keep moving forward. Our SOCIALS will start up again in August and we hope you join us. Keep in mind if you race again with us you will get a third medal (2 races = 3 medals).
Finally, in addition to all the fun we just had this race is making a true difference in our community. Sole Sisters is the fundraiser that allows Girls Gone Gazelle Run Club to be FREE to girls 8-13 and to keep them training throughout the year. This is in addition to the $3,000 dollars that the race donates to charities we support: Canadian Cancer Society’s Run for the Cure, The Terry Fox Foundation, Team In Training Atlantic Chapter, Diabetes Canada; as well as local running and swimming clubs like the Dartmouth Crusaders and Lakeshore Runners.
